62 Million for 230 Beds at SCI-Coal Township

It was reported in today's Daily-Item, the SCI-Coal Township is expected to expand by 230 beds or one housing unit.

If you look inside the numbers, that is $270,000 for each bed or $540, 000 for each cell. It would be interesting to see the cost breakdown.

I believe the original prison, built in the early 90's, had a price tag of 55 million. A prison recently built and named SCI-Forest had a 138 million dollar pricetag according to the DOC website in 2004.
